NEW YEAR, NEW GARAGE!

Welcome to the “New Year!” Although it’s been a challenging time with the pandemic still ongoing, it can still be helpful to give yourself a clean fresh start, even if time seems to march forward in a confusing manner.  That’s why we’re taking it all in stride and doing our best to refresh our minds and our spaces. On today’s blog you’ll find lots of helpful hints and tips along with all the tools you’ll need to keep your space in tip-top shape.

We’re back with another installment of the Local Community Calendar!  We’ve rounded up some lovely events and entertainment for you to enjoy over the next month or so.  Whether you’re looking at virtual events or outdoor fun, we know you’ll enjoy yourselves!

We’ve come up with a fun list of places you can visit right here on Long Island when you need a break from cabin fever!  They’re easy enough to get to and enjoy for a “Sunday Drive” and leisurely adventure.  Check them out and let us know which ones are your faves!  And as always feel free to let us know if you’ve got a favourite destination we can include on an upcoming blog list.

National Short Film Day was created to honour and celebrate the birth of “film.” We’ve come a long way since then from short films to major motion pictures and blockbuster films, and the industry continues to grow by leaps and bounds.  We can even watch movies on the road in our car now!  Pretty cool, if we may say so.  But do you know how movies got their start?  You’ll have the Lumiere Brothers to thank for that!  Learn all about it on today’s blog, and check out our picks for cool car themed short films!

Today is Festivus, the celebration for the rest of us!  This cheeky pseudo-holiday turned into an ever growing pop culture seasonal celebration, but it first appeared in 1997 as originated on Seinfeld, a hit sitcom of the decade.  Key components to the unique and wacky holiday include the Festivus dinner feast, the aluminum Festivus pole, “Airing of Grievances” and “Feats of Strength.”

We’ve rounded up our picks for great weekend or week-long getaways that are just a short drive away.  On less than a tank of gas, you and your significant other can enjoy a weekend of restful repose.  Or perhaps you’d like to take the kids on a short vacation to beat those post-holiday doldrums?  We think you’ll find exactly what you’re looking for amongst the suggestions for winter road trip ideas!

We’re celebrating the first day of winter on the Winter Solstice.  It’s the shortest day and longest night of the year in 2021!  We’ve got some fun facts about the history of this seasonal event, ways to celebrate it at home, and interesting events all day long around the New York City Metro Area.
