Shinnecock Powwow in Southampton  takes place onSept 1st through Sept 5th.  The Shinnecock Nation is welcoming everyone to celebrate their Native American traditions and heritage with a four day festival and celebration.  This family friendly event is open to the public this weekend: Fridays 3-8PM, Saturday and Sunday 10AM to 10PM and Monday 10AM to 5PM. 

 

Hampton Classic Horse Show trots into town from Sept 1st through Sept 5th in Bridgehampton! One of the largest outdoor horse show events in the US for 50 years running, it’s an incredible local event in which the world’s best equestrians compete for more than one million dollars!  There will be nearly 100 vendors, global food stands, activities for families and kids, an animal adoption event, and so much more. It’s a wonderful day trip for families!

 

The Annual Sand Creation Contest of Fire Island Wilderness on Monday September 5th takes place between 10:30AM and 2:30PM and is open to all ages and free to attend!  Head over to the visitor center from 10:30AM to 12PM to register your family and friends as a competitive team.  The judging and prizes will be awarded at 2:30, so be sure to get there bright and early to have the most time available on your sand creations!

 

 

Looking to get away with your friends and family to something more quiet or perhaps even adventurous? Check out these great getaways and destinations just a short drive away!

 

Orient Beach State Park is a fantastic day out for a last blast of summer fun!  Take a dip in the bay to cool off, enjoy some shoreline fishing, kindle your sense of adventure with kayaking, windsurfing, and stand-up paddle boarding.  Sea-legs feeling a bit wobbly? Keep your feet on the terrain with a walk along the nature trail, a hike, or a bike ride!

 

Heckscher State Park is one of the most photogenic beaches in the area, with sprawling views of the Great South Bay and rife with opportunities for wildlife and birding photography.  Host a picnic or barbecue while your kiddos enjoy the playground and open areas for sports and play.  Spend the day with your loved ones, or book a spot at the campgrounds on site. You can also enjoy an afternoon of swimming, water sports, kayaking, canoeing and even fishing from your boat.

 

Old Bethpage Village Restoration is always a great way to spend the day or a weekend for folks of all ages!  This living museum and historic village allows visitors to become fully immersed in 19th century living with live demonstrations and recreations, and historical tours with costumed guides, and even special events like Old Timey Baseball!

 

Natural Stone Bridge and Caves Park in the Adirondacks is an incredible scenic location in Pottersville with incredible hiking trails through grottos, caves, and waterfalls.  Explore the self-guided trails and get an up close look at natural wonders, snap some incredible landscape and scenic view photo ops, get a peek at the local bat population, or book an official guided tour.

 

Golden Beach Campground and Day Use Area in Raquette Lake is nestled in the Adirondacks. You and your friends and loved ones can enjoy a fantastic day of boating on the lake (motorboats, rowboats, canoes, and kayaks allowed!)  Or perhaps you prefer fishing in the stocked lake for some trout, white fish, bass, and so many more!  Explore the woods and hit the trails with a nature hike or a trail run, and then cool off with an evening swim with a dip in the lake!
